Not Reality is a photoblog.
The name refers to the artist René
Magritte and
his "Use of Words" (both the title of one of his
most famous images and a literal description of
his use of language and words in his artwork) In
Magritte's painting "The Use of Words" he has painted
a realistic pipe, below which are the words "Ceci
n'est pas une pipe" (This is not a pipe) Of course
this is a statement of fact.
It
is not a pipe, but a visual representation of a
pipe. So too, these photographs are not reality,
but a photographic representation of my particular
reality, what I see through my camera, and what
I choose to photograph. This photoblog is the second
incarnation of my first photoblog aporeality -
My name is Cameron and that is a portrait of me there grinning like an
idiot at the left. I'm lucky to live in an outer suburb of Melbourne, Australia, close to a temperate rainforest and ambundant natural beauty. I'm smiling because when I have a camera in hand, snapping away, I am doing something I truly enjoy. I hope you, the visitor to this site, like the fruits of my exposures.
PLEASE help support the notreality site by getting polaroid supplies (including holga stuff) from:
Operandi
Modus: I have a few cameras which you can read about on my cameras page. My favoured are my Polaroid and Toy Cameras, the majority of my recent photographs are taken with one or another of these cameras, unpredictable though their results may be. I think the unique quirkiness of the images produced from these cameras is what I like most about them!
Software: ~ Adobe Photoshop is the program of choice for digital darkroom work.
I usually don't manipulate my photographs that much.
The most common tasks would involve occasional cropping,
curves adjustment, converting to Black and White
or duotone/tritone etc. as well as image resizing
for the web. To transmogrify the images you seee on the site from the analogue to digital realm I scan my negatives, prints and polaroids using a Canoscan 1800F scanner.
Thanks:
to Donald Tetto who wrote the php script folderblog which
powers this photoblog. Unfortunately its development appears to be in hiatus at the moment, so I hope Donald finds the time to continue to develop it again soon as it is a great program. I would also like to thank Zach Robin for the php code fb-RSS that makes updating the rss feed for this blog so much easier these days.
A big thanks to Amy for
her ongoing encouragement and friendship, thanks
Amy!
I will always feel gratitude and love for meg (Michelle) from Mandarin
Design for the generosity and friendship
she showed many people on the www whilst sharing
her not inconsiderable knowledge of web design
tricks, tips and techniques! Sadly, she is no longer with us, but her memory and legacy will live on.
Brandon
Stone certainly deserves credit for his
tireless work and encouragement he gives in
the photoblogging community with the photoblogs.org sites.
Thank you (yes I know, it's getting like an Oscar acceptance speech isn't it?) to all the my visitors
who have stopped by to look at my photographs
and occasionally comment on them. Your visits
and feedback are very much appreciated!
I learnt how to construct the style-switcher courtesy
of A List Apart which
is a great resource for web designers.
Last, but certainly not least, my thanks and
love go to my Wife, family and friends that have
put up with me "capturing the moment" for so long now. You are the best!
