Keep Your Area Rug Looking New With Good Cleaning

Keep Your Area Rug Looking New With Good Cleaning

When you want to bring some color and pattern into your home while designating spaces, area rugs are matched by a few. They’re just great.

Of course, like with anything else, they can get dirty too, so knowing how to care for rugs is important to make sure they stay great.

Here are some tips to keep in mind.

Basic Care

Okay, regardless of the material of your area rug, there are certain things that you always have to do to keep it clean.

  • Vacuum large rugs. Like with your carpets, regular vacuuming is one of the most important things for making sure a rug stays clean. If you can turn a rug around, then vacuum both sides. This is important for getting rid of grit and grime that wears down rugs.
  • Brush out pet hair. A stiff brush can get rid of any pet hairs that a vacuum can’t. Just remember to brush in the direction of the rug’s nap.
  • Turn your rugs regularly. Naturally, the sun and walking over a rug can wear it out. Turn your rug’s sides regularly (annually is good) in order to keep the wear even.
  • Shake ‘em. Smaller rugs can just be taken outdoors, then shaken and beaten for cleaning. Take note that there are regulations for shaking rugs and such, so might want to check your local rules first.

Cleaning by material

Woven or Braided

Before getting to cleaning, check braided or woven area rugs, first check if they have stitching breaks and if their labels say they’re washable or not.

If washable, put them in a mesh laundry bag or zippered pillowcase then wash with cool water on a gentle cycle. Tumble dry on low.

For larger rugs, place them on vinyl or concrete, or put an old blanket under them, then sponge them with the commercial carpet-cleaning foam of your choice then rub as per rug instructions. Rinse or vacuum after, then dry thoroughly.

Hand-knotted, antique, or Oriental

Antiques and Persians are popular for kitchens and other areas that see a lot of foot traffic, so they end up needing more TLC than others.

For new Oriental rugs, vacuum them like you would carpet and wool rugs.

Vintages and antiques need special care though, so you’ll have to put a nylon screen over them while you vacuum. Or you can use a nylon mesh over the vacuum. Annual professional cleaning is also a must, as well as rotating. Direct sunlight on these rugs tends to make them fade.

Fur, sheepskin, and hair-on hides

For these kinds of rugs, you’ll need some unscented talcum powder. Leave it to soak the powder for a few hours, then brush and shake. You’ll have to do this several times, based on how long the fur on the rugs is.

For the back, you’ll need a clean cotton cloth: dip it in lukewarm soapy water, then get wiping. Rinse with a cloth dipped in clean water, then dry thoroughly.

What To Know About The New Canadian ELD Mandate

What To Know About The New Canadian ELD Mandate

Any company that has a truck that are among the more than 5mn that regularly cross the US-Canada border annually, like Titan Transline, paid close attention to the newly-announced Canadian ELD mandate.

The Canadian ELD mandate will take effect in June 2021, with the phase-in period to end by June 12, meaning that any fleets that are or planning to operate in Canada have to have a compliant electronic logging device (ELD) on their trucks by that time.

This new mandate is similar to the one the US Dept. of Transportation implemented in December 2019, but with notable differences.

Difference in certification

One of the key differences between the US and Canadian ELD mandates is that, in the US, ELD manufacturers can self-certify their own devices. In contrast, Canada requires that credible third-party organizations certify any ELDs in trucks.

This means that ELDs that are certified in the US might not be valid or compliant in Canada, depending on whether or not their manufacturers can get proper certification from a third party.

Driver training

The US and Canada have differences in rules regarding malfunction and diagnostic events (M&Ds), personal vehicle use, and EROD transfers. Some of these differences are small, some are big, but, regardless, an operator working in both countries needs to be trained in both.

Transfer differences

Another key difference between the US’s and Canada’s ELD mandates is that Canadian drivers don’t transfer their logs electronically to a set-up federal system, unlike the US, where drivers transfer their trucking logs to eRODs. Canadian drivers, instead, have to email their logs via a transfer file to officers.

Minimum requirements

Canadian ELDs have to meet the Technical Standard for Electronic Logging Devices, which is the country’s standard for any ELD, as set by the Canadian Council of Motor Transportation Administrators (CCMTA).

The bottom-line

While there are notable differences, the key idea is still about truckers finding an ELD that is compliant with all the regulations and can handle everything they need. Both mandates have similar requirements, like engine synchronization, GPS tracking, on-screen displays, and the like.

Having one device that’s compliant with both the US and Canada ELD mandates will help streamline operations for truckers and trucking companies, and avoid any issues when crossing borders.

The Things People Look For In A Review

The Things People Look For In A Review

Online reviews are powerful, with the vast majority of shoppers online looking them up before deciding on a product or service. They’re the new word-of-mouth advertising, so it’s no surprise that how a business leverages online reviews can decide whether or not they make it.

In order to make the most of online reviews, it’s important to know what people look for in them.

Score

The score, or star rating depending on the point-system you’re looking at, is the most important part of a review for most customers.

The score matters, as anything below a 3/5 on search results for local businesses will be overlooked by customers for businesses with better scores. A 3/5 is the average ‘lowest acceptable score’ for most people, but, on the flipside, too perfect a score is unrealistic, meaning that 4 is the sweet spot.

Number of reviews

The number of online reviews also matter, as most people need around 4-6 reviews before they’ll opt for a business, but some people need more.

Quality of reviews

By ‘quality’, we mean how well the reviews are written. Review platforms can hide reviews that don’t match up with their standards, for the customers that actually rely on them, the quality of reviews is just as important.

Concise, informative reviews that say much without overdoing it is worth their words.

Recency

Like with a lot of things on the internet, how updated a review is matters.

Customers tend to prefer reviews that were written within the last six months for them. If they see, for example, king kong marketing reviews that are six months old or older, they won’t trust them.
